AUSTIN — Senator Eddie Lucio (D-Brownsville) has been appointed a member of the Senate Committee in charge of drawing congressional and legislative maps during a special Legislative Session which began this week.
On Monday, Texas Governor Rick Perry called the Texas Legislature into Special Session in order to ratify maps for districts used to elect members of the Texas House of Representatives, Texas Senate, and U.S. House of Representatives. Senator Lucio was appointed to the 15-member Senate Select Committee on Redistricting, which meets for the first time Thursday, May 30, 2013 at the Texas Capitol in Austin.
"It is important that South Texas be adequately represented as we determine the maps we'll use for elections over the remainder of the decade. I am grateful for the appointment to this important committee and look forward to working with my Senate colleagues on this challenging issue," Senator Lucio said.
The remaining members of the Committee are Chairman Kel Seliger (R-Amarillo), Vice-Chair Carlos Uresti (D-San Antonio), John Carona (R-Dallas), Robert Duncan (R-Lubbock), Kevin Eltife (R-Tyler), Craig Estes (R-Wichita Falls), Troy Fraser (R-Horseshoe Bay), Sylvia Garcia (D-Houston), Juan "Chuy" Hinojosa (D-McAllen), Joan Huffman (R-Houston), Dan Patrick (R-Houston), Royce West (D-Dallas), Tommy Williams (R-The Woodlands), and Judith Zaffirini (D-Laredo).
